The project developed with the Institut du Cancer de Montpellier (ICM) aims to integrate our robot Miroki into the pediatric radiotherapy department to support young patients throughout their care journey. Imagined by Dr. Julien Welmant, this initiative represents a world-first innovation by placing emotional support at the heart of cancer treatment.
Present before, during, and after radiotherapy sessions, Miroki helps reduce feelings of loneliness and anxiety while contributing to an overall improvement in the quality of care. This project embodies a deeply human-centered approach to technology, serving both patient well-being and medical excellence.
Miroki with children
Pediatric radiotherapy relies on a highly demanding protocol, typically involving around thirty sessions during which the child must remain completely still, alone in the treatment room, and sometimes under general anesthesia. These constraints can generate significant emotional distress and lead to long-term psychological consequences. The integration of Miroki within ICM, including inside the radiotherapy treatment room, directly addresses these challenges.

Session after session, the robot provides children with a reassuring presence, helps them cope with stress, and encourages adherence to the treatment schedule. The project also aims to improve the efficiency and fluidity of care, facilitate communication between medical teams and families, and support a rigorous scientific evaluation in order to contribute, in the long term, to redefining standards of care in pediatric radiotherapy.
