MIROKI AT LIVE OAK ADULT DAY SERVICE
At Live Oak Adult Day Services in San Jose, Miroki supported seniors living with mild to moderate dementia through music, trivia, and engaging conversations. Designed to assist caregivers, the robot created joyful, stimulating moments while freeing staff to focus on hands-on care. As aging populations and caregiver shortages accelerated, Miroki demonstrated a scalable, human-centered solution for nursing homes. Its warm reception by residents highlighted the emotional impact and real-world acceptance of thoughtfully designed social robotics. The experience illustrated how Miroki represents a new generation of companion technology built to augment care teams and enhance quality of life.

Multi-site deployment across diverse audiences
The APREH project is a collaboration to deploy 11 Mirokaï across multiple types of APREH facilities, reaching different populations: older adults in independent living residences, adults with disabilities in supported living homes, and children with disabilities through specialized child support services. This multi-setting approach will allow APREH to explore how a humanoid, empathetic and interactive robot can adapt to diverse needs, contexts, and daily routines.
Acceptance, Joy, and a New Generation of Social Robotics
One of the most powerful outcomes of the Live Oak experience was the residents’ enthusiasm. For some, seeing and interacting with a robot at age 94 was described as “the highlight of my life.” Mirokaï’s approachable size, expressive design, and playful sense of humor fostered intuitive and reassuring interactions — even among individuals living with cognitive decline. This strong acceptance underscored a critical insight: when robotics was designed with empathy and emotional intelligence at its core, it could become a trusted presence in care environments. The Live Oak pilot demonstrated how social robots could meaningfully contribute to the future of elder care.
